MONITORING OF PARTICULATE MATTER (INDOOR AND OUTDOOR)

  • Planning, organization and administration of campaigns to collect samples of atmospheric particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5 fractions) in urban, rural and remote sites;
  • Availability of inertial cascade impactor samplers or continuous multi-stage samplers to reconstruct the spatial and the temporal distribution of atmospheric particulate matter concentration;
  • Measurement of particulate matter concentrations in conditioning room as defined by DL.vo 155/2010;
  • Monitoring of indoor air quality (especially in industrial environment);
  • Monitoring via optical analysers of the temporal trend of airborne particles number in different size classes.

COMPOSITIONAL ANALYSIS OF ATMOSPHERIC PARTICULATE

  • Thermo-optical and optical analysis for the identification of carbonaceous components (Total, Organic and Elemental Carbon; TC, OC, EC);
  • Analysis for the determination of optical absorption properties and evaluation of carbonaceous aerosol concentrations (Black and Brown Carbon; BC, BrC);
  • Ion chromatography;
  • Energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (ED-XRF).

COMPOSITIONAL ANALYSIS FOR WORKERS’ EXPOSURE ASSESSMENT

Assessment of exposure to diesel exhaust emissions: thermo-optical analysis (NIOSH-5040 method, EUSAAR protocol, …) for the determination of the Elemental Carbon (EC) content.

LOW-COST SYSTEMS FOR ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING

  • Development and implementation of innovative systems for environmental monitoring based on the use of low-cost technology (environmental sensors, IoT), real-time data acquisition and processing with calculation algorithms for the identification of the emission source;
  • Early-warning services for the early assessment of environmental criticality;
  • Support for the planning of containment/mitigation actions.

ANALYSIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF EMISSION SOURCES

Identification, characterization and apportionment of pollution sources through the use of multivariate statistical analysis (receptor models such as PMF: Positive Matrix Factorization, CMB: Chemical Mass Balance) for the purpose of planning actions, environmental policy, potentially polluting plants control and for the determination of the influence of natural phenomena (sea spray, Sahara dust, fire) on the concentration of air pollutants.

PREPARATION OF SUPPORTED FILTER MEDIA

Assembly and preparation of filters and impaction stages (coated and uncoated) for atmospheric samplers (Streaker samplers (PIXE International), STRAS, ecc.).
